PTO Meeting

In case you missed it... last Thursday, September 20th, I presented the mosaics that students created during the 2011-2012 school year. After a visit by artist Kirkland Smith, I was inspired to do a collaborative project with students. Each class was given a landmark or building here in the city. Each class then created a list of important characteristics of their place. What would they tell people about their place? What is the purpose of their place? After the list was completed, students voted to decide the defining characteristic of their landmark or building. Together, students then created a list of how they would depict the defining characteristic in mosaic form. Once their design was chosen, students glued bead after bead, stone after stone until their class mosaic was complete. I am soooo proud how well students worked together. I am also very proud of the final mosaics. The students put sooo much work into them. Way to go!!!

We were also pleased to announce that these lovely mosaics we be in the auction in April. Below are just three of the eight mosaics. I am hoping in the coming weeks to get a few more pictures to post..maybe some close-ups! :)

P.S. Sorry for the bright windows! It was incredibly sunny Friday morning!
