Look at what we did!!!

Great Job Art Club!!!! I recently visited our newly displayed art and I am soooooooo proud! The artworks look so good grouped together in one big Picasso inspired display. Keep up the great work!
*Thank you so much to the individual that created the display for us!!!

I was also very impressed by our artworks that we created for the Appreciation Dinner! Everyone did a great job creating their idea, incorporating the elements of art and writing a wonderful "thank you" message. Our "helping hands" looked fantastic displayed on the tables for the dinner :)
*Thank you to all the wonderful ladies that set up this dinner! I am so glad that my art classes were able to help!
I also wanted to share what I have been up to. You may have noticed that I have not included anything about art classes this week. Well, that is because I was attending the South Carolina Art Education Association's annual conference in Myrtle Beach. I had a wonderful time and have so many great ideas that I can't wait to share with students! Below, I have include a sneak peek of what I worked on during the last couple of days...

"This is fun!"

Wednesday's Art Club meeting was just! Last week, students learned about Henri Matisse and explored several of his artworks, in particular his collages. Students loved the bright colors and the organic shapes that he used. Inspired by what they had seen, students began sketching their own ideas for their collage artworks.

However, our collages will be different this time from what students have created in the past. Instead of being limited to only a few materials, students will be using a wide range of materials to create their collage including wrapping paper, aluminum foil colored with Sharpie, construction paper, magazines, newspaper, and painted paper.

This week in Art Club, students spent the entire meeting creating their painted paper. Students really enjoyed painting their paper with the tempera paint and using combs to swirl the paint creating lines and textures. Everyone made a variety of painted papers using around 6 different individual color choices.

I can't wait to see how their collages will end up! Art Club members have thought up some great ideas for this project and they are incredibly excited about starting to apply their papers to their canvas board next week :)

A break from brochures...

This week, 1-6 graders are taking a break from working on brochures to create a special artwork. In a couple of weeks, an Appreciation Dinner will be held. Students were asked to create artworks expressing their thanks for all the people that help our school.

Students in this short project, created hand designs, acting as a symbol for "lending a hand". Using the Elements of Art, students created a unique design and incorporated a message of appreciation. Students then cut out their design, which will be mounted onto black construction paper.

Also this week, Art Club Bigs members (4-6 graders) finished their Picasso Portraits. Check out the slideshow below to see the wonderful creations!!!

Congrats K4 and K5!

Congratulations to the K4 and K5 for finishing their very first art project! Hooray! Students learned about the primary and secondary colors in this project. After making primary and secondary colored dots, students transformed these dots into their favorite animals. Scroll through the slideshow below to see all of their hard work...

October is Here!

Wow! Where did September go? It feels like we were just beginning our first projects!

Students in grades 1-6 are finishing their Elements of Art brochures. Pictures will be coming in the next few weeks! :)

The K4 and K5 have recently finished their first project (pictures coming soon), and have started learning this week about the warm and cool colors. Students practiced using warm and cool colors, in order to begin using skills they will be utizling in the weeks to come. Here is an example of one students work...

With so many projects becoming complete, including Art Club, I am working on a better solution for posting pictures. Hopefully, I can figure out how to post a slideshow so it will be a little more convenient for everyone to view artworks. I will be working on that this weekend and hope to have pictures of all the finished artworks up by the beginning of this coming week!
